This may be a surprise to you, but I’m the mother/owner/operator/tech person/everything for DragShow.ca. I created the online community to spread the joy of drag across Katarokwi/Kingston and across Canada, too. I saw a need for an SEO friendly website listing drag events allowing the lay person to simply search for “Drag Shows Near Me” and find the events. And it worked! But, we have discovered, drag is under attack and has enough haters.
Our DragShow.ca community was recently targeted on March 18, 2026. Throughout March, DragShow.ca experienced a Denial of Service (DoS) attack. It was an attempt to overwhelm our website with massive amounts of traffic, forcing it offline and making it inaccessible to the very community it was built to support.
For those unfamiliar, a Denial of Service attack is when bad actors flood a website with fake requests, essentially clogging the system so real users can’t get through. It’s not just frustrating—it’s disruptive, intentional, and designed to silence.
And for a few weeks, it worked.
DragShow.ca was down.
That meant lost visibility for performers. Missed connections within the community. A pause on a platform built to uplift and celebrate Canadian drag artists and events. We know how important this space is—and we felt that loss alongside you.
But we’re back.
And we didn’t come back quietly.
To protect our platform and our community, we’ve implemented new security measures. You may have already noticed a few changes:
- A quick “Are you human?” check when entering the site
- Temporary restrictions limiting access to Canadian users only
These steps help filter out malicious traffic and keep DragShow.ca stable and accessible for the people who matter—our community here at home.
Here’s the truth: Defending this space takes resources.
The kind of protection needed to keep DragShow.ca online, secure, and resilient against future attacks isn’t free. And as much as this platform is built with love, it also needs tangible support to survive and grow.
