Grow with Me 2022

Tyffanie

It’s a new year! Join me growing from seed and sharing our experiences throughout the growing process. #GrowWithMe

To participate, get seeds, get growing, and listen to Breakfast with Tyffanie. Then join me and others on Facebook and share our growing experience together. We’ll germinate, plant, and grow the seeds. Share photos and stories of our accomplishments and even our failures. It will be fun!

Seeds I will be buying, growing and sharing with you:

Tomato – Church

A friend of mine introduced me to the Church tomato in 2020. It is an heirloom variety and grows some beautiful beefy tomatoes. Superb flavour for slicing or fresh eating and I found it great for sauces. One tomato made me enough sauce for a whole meal. They can grow to be 1 to 2lbs. Photo is from #TyffsGarden 2020. I’m really looking forward to trying this again in 2022!

Tomato – Mountain Merit

I tried these last year with mixed results. Mostly because I clearly had no vision and grew too many things. You need to give plants a chance to grow. I bought some fresh Mountain Merit tomato seeds this year. I’m not entirely sure I’ll grow them. But I might. We’ll see 🙂

Cucumber – Mercury

I’ve grown Mercury in years past. They grew wonderfully in my small space of a greenhouse producing great fruit. Mercury cucumbers are exceptionally early beit alpha type cucumbers. The fruits are 20cm (8″) long with thin, shiny, dark skins, and crisp, sweet, flavourful flesh. Honestly, I love them and so does the snails in my garden. Get them before they get them! 🙂

Cucamelon from Tyff's garden 2021

Cucamelon / Mouse Melon

These were so fun to grow last year. I’m gonna grow them again. The first crop of #TyffsGarden in 2021. A unique plant which rewards you with tiny green striped fruit with a delicious and unique flavour. These cucamelons are productive and have great disease resistance. Perfect for snacking while working in the garden. They never make it to the plate or even out of the garden. Funny thing, I never find the squirrels or birds picking at them. I get them all to myself!

Pole bean – Blauhilde

I got quite a few comments on this. People loved seeing a purple pod. I grew them out at the gay campsite in Tweed, Ontario. Virtually no maintenance. A deep purple pole bean with long, fleshy, oval pods of 9-11” length. Beans turn green when cooked.

Tyffanie’s Marigolds

I have these marigold seeds I’ve saved over the years. This is a photo from 2018 and they come true each year. They make great fillers for garden beds and pots. They are short and have lovely colours like this photo with the oranges. The seeds originated from a local seed exchange (Seedy Saturday) a few years ago. A real gem. Message me and I can send you some seeds (pending supply but I saved allot of seed).

Anything else, Tyff?

Well yes! I have dahlias, colocasias, alocasias, bananas… quite a few tropicals. I also grow from seed ricinus/castor bean. But a new plant I’m trying for the very first time are chrysanthemums. Not your usual fall-time plants. These are fancy ones you can sometimes find in fancy floral shops. Stay tuned. I’m sure I’ll share in my Instagram feed!

Where do I get these seeds

These seeds are sold commercially. Find them on West Coast Seeds, on Veseys, or William Dam Seeds.

I want to participate but not with these seeds

If you don’t get these seeds, no problem. Please share your growing experiences with the seeds you grow or of your garden.

I will also be growing other seeds and plants. I’ll be sharing them on Facebook, too!

When?

Join the Facebook group and listen to Breakfast with Tyffanie for updates. Seed starting will likely begin in March 2022 (depending on seed descriptions).
