After several wonderful years, we’ve made the difficult decision to retire DragShow.ca.
What started during the COVID years as a way to help people discover drag shows and drag events in Kingston and Southeastern Ontario grew into something much bigger. DragShow.ca became a resource for finding local drag, discovering performers, and exploring drag events happening across Canada. We’re incredibly proud of what it became and the community it served.
Thank you to everyone who visited DragShow.ca, used it to find a show, discovered a new drag artist, or supported the project along the way. You helped make it a valuable resource for our local drag community and beyond.
Unfortunately, the world of the internet has changed significantly since DragShow.ca first launched. The ongoing attacks against 2SLGBTQ+ information and resources online have made maintaining platforms like ours increasingly challenging. As we shared in our April update about the attack on DragShow.ca, the site has faced sustained malicious traffic that has made keeping it online a difficult and costly undertaking.
At the same time, the way people discover events has changed. Fewer people are visiting dedicated event directories, and event submissions from organizers have declined. With search engines and AI-powered tools making it easier than ever to find drag shows through platforms like Eventbrite, Facebook, and other event websites, maintaining a separate, comprehensive directory has become increasingly difficult to justify.
After weighing the costs, the challenges, and the changing needs of our community, we’ve decided that it’s time to close this chapter.
DragShow.ca was a labour of love. It was created to help people find drag, support local performers, and celebrate the vibrant drag community in Kingston, Southeastern Ontario, and across Canada. We hope it helped you discover a show you loved, an artist you still follow, or a little more of the magic that drag brings to our communities.
While DragShow.ca may be coming to an end, the drag community is very much alive and thriving.
Please continue to support your local drag artists, attend their shows, share their events, buy tickets, and celebrate the incredible talent in your own backyard. Whether it’s a drag brunch, a theatre production, a Pride performance, or a night at your favourite local venue, your support makes a real difference.
Thank you for being part of the DragShow.ca journey. We’re grateful for every visit, every discovery, and every bit of support over the years.
Keep supporting local drag. Keep showing up. And keep celebrating the art of drag!
With love and gratitude,
Tyffanie Morgan
